Our story

Where curiosity lights the future.

A welcoming place to ask questions, build ideas and grow real skills in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Our next chapter

A familiar place to keep growing

STEM Lantern is the name that carries our learning centre forward. We want children and teens to have space to wonder, try, make mistakes, make connections and discover what they can do.

A new name, with continuity you can recognize

From Skill Samurai Saskatoon to STEM Lantern

Skill Samurai Saskatoon is now STEM Lantern.

During this transition, you may see both names together. We are doing this intentionally so families who know our Saskatoon East learning centre can recognize that they have arrived at the right place.

The idea behind our name

Why a lantern?

When you look at our logo, the lantern itself represents the past — a time when light came from a flame. But inside our lantern, we have replaced that flame with an electric light bulb, representing electric light and how science and technology have brought us into the present.

Surrounding that light are the symbols of STEM — science, technology, engineering and mathematics — representing the tools our children will use to build the future.

We do not know what the light of tomorrow will look like — whether it will still come from electricity or from an entirely new source yet to be discovered or invented. And that is why we teach STEM: some of the children we are teaching today may be the ones who discover or invent that new source of light tomorrow.

Every great discovery or invention begins with curiosity.

STEM Lantern is where curiosity lights the future.

Our approach

How we teach

We make room for hands-on exploration alongside structured practice. Learners can build, code, reason and ask why, with guidance that helps them take the next step from where they are.

Looking ahead

What we hope learners become

Curious thinkers who keep asking questions. Capable makers who can test an idea, learn from a setback and use what they know to make something new.
